Wintersports in Füssen

The city of Füssen in the Allgäu is a great destination for a winter holiday. Next to the romantic old town, which draws many visitors every winter due to it's popular traditional Christmas market, Füssen also offers ideal conditions for any kind of winter sport. No matter if you want to do alpine skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, ice sports, tobogganing or hiking – lots of activities are on offer in Füssen.

Several attractive and familiar skiing areas can easily be reached from Füssen, which can all be accessed with just one ski pass. Füssen is a part of the wintersports region of Allgäu/Tirol – Vitales Land, which 14 holiday destinations and regions in the Allgäu and Tirol belong to. The closest skiing area is located only 5 kilometers away from Füssen. In the winter sports arena Tegelberg in Schwangau you can have lots of fun in the snow. Ski enthusiasts will find ideal ski-runs that meet the demands of all skill levels. The 4.2km long downhill slope promises lots of fun for everyone. Cross country skiers will get excited about the lit Neuschwanstein-Loipe, which is located directly below the world famous fairy tale castle. Artificial snow machines guarantee snow and floodlights at the Adlerlift and Reithlift enable you to enjoy skiing at night. You can also find a skiing school here, as well as a ski rental company and cozy apres ski locations.

Füssen and the stunning surrounding landscape of the Allgäu are a paradise for cross country skiers. You'll find about 300 kilometers of cross country skiing tracks in great condition leading through the beautiful nature. The cross country skiing trail network around Füssen was awarded for it's quality by the German automobile club ADAC multiple times. The trails meet the demands of beginners as well as experienced skiers. Next to the already mentioned Neuschwanstein-Loipe the Höhen-Loipe at the Buchenberg is a real highlight. It leads through a winter landscape and provides great views of the king's nook of the Allgäu. The cross country skiing equipment can be borrowed from many businesses around Füssen and those who want to learn the sport firstly can also take courses.

Ideal conditions for ice skating, curling and ice stick shooting can also be done in Füsse. The picturesque lakes of the region freeze over during the winter and enable you to do ice skating in the middle of a beautiful natural scenery. Curling also can easily be done here. If the weather is not suitable for your activity of choice, you can also to the ice skating hall of Füssen. At the home of the ice hockey champion EV Füssen, one can enjoy the sport as well, practice ice skating or enjoy other activities on the ice. Ice sailing is an especially recommended activity on the Hopfensee. It's great fun and you should try it out.

A winter holiday in Füssen also should include sledding and tobogganing. The slopes in the area are perfect for this purpose and it's great fun for young and old alike. Hikes to the cozy mountain huts in the area are also popular, where you can enjoy local delicacies and use a sledge to get back to the valley. Great natural toboggan runs await you at the  Saloberalm or at the Buchenbergalm. The longest natural toboggan run in the Allgäu is located in the direct vicinity of Füssen. Nighttime toboggan runs are also a lot of fun.

Füssen leaves nothing to be desired when it comes to winter sports and those who prefer to take it slow can enjoy the hiking trails, which lead through snow covered dreamy landscapes. You can also practice snowshoeing and enjoy the magic of the winter.
