Skiing around Füssen

When the beautiful town of Füssen turns white in the winter months and radiates pure winter romance, tourists can enjoy a great skiing experience. Füssen lies close to several attractive skiing areas in the Allgäu and Tirol, that leave no desires unfulfilled for wintersport enthusiasts.

Füssen is a part of the wintersports region of Allgäu/Tirol – Vitales Land, which 14 holiday destinations and regions in the Allgäu and Tirol belong to. In cooperation with the local mountain railways and lift operator, tourists can enjoy a great skiing experience. A skipass is necessary to use all of the several skiing areas of the region. More than 140 kilometers of white ski-slopes, cross country skiing rails of more than 450 kilometers, fun park for snowboarders, skiing schools, apres ski options and several other wintersports options like ice skating, ice hockey and sledging await winter holiday enthusiasts. If you prefer it more quiet, you can enjoy a ride with a horse drawn sleight or enjoy one of many health and wellness options on offer. Due to the central location of Füssen, all skiing areas can be quickly reached from this city on the Lech. Füssen is therefore the ideal base for a perfect winter holiday.

Only about 5 kilometers away from Füssen, in the neighboring community of Schwangau, you can find the wintersports arena at the Tegelberg, which offers optimum wintersports conditions for the whole family. Perfect slopes can be found here that suit beginners and experienced skiers alike. The 4.2km long downhill slope promises lots of fun for everyone. Cross country skiers will get excited about the lit Neuschwanstein-Loipe, which is located directly below the world famous fairy tale castle. Artificial snow machines guarantee snow and floodlights at the Adlerlift and Reithlift enable you to enjoy skiing at night. You can also find a skiing school here, as well as a ski rental company and cozy apres ski locations.

A family friendly skiing area is located about 10km away from Füssen at the Buchenberg. A chair lift will take you up to the beautiful mountaintop, where attractive and well prepared slopes are ready for beginners and experts alike. The different slopes also offer snowboarders great conditions and cross country skiers will be amazed by the beautiful „Alpen-Ebene“ trail, which leads through an amazing winter landscape with stunning views of the surrounding mountainscape. A toboggan run which is 2.5km long and great mountain hikes make the winter holiday complete. The rustic mountain hut Buchenberg Alm invites you to warm up or to enjoy delicious local specialties.

The Breitenberg is located about 11 kilometers away from Füssen and offers the next beautiful skiing area. Seven drag lifts, of which four are used for training, make the beautiful slopes accessible for beginners and experts alike. Artificial snow machines and floodlights at the family lift as well as at the regular lift enable everyone to enjoy skiing until late at night. Here you can also find the longest lit slope of the Allgäu with a length of 1.8km. Snowboarders will also enjoy the area. Cozy lift huts invite people for apres ski entertainment after the sporting.

Further attractive skiing areas close to Füssen can be found at the Hahnenkamm near Reutte, at the Alpspitze in Nesselwang or in the beautiful Tannheimer Tal. From Füssen they all can be reached quickly and easily. If you don't feel like doing winter sports for a while, you can always enjoy a walk through the romantic old town of Füssen, see the many sights or enjoy a spa and relax.
