Museum of the Bavarian kings

In the month of September of 2011, Hohenschwangau was enriched with another attraction. At the foothills of the dreamy castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, directly next to the Alpsee lake, one can find the museum of the Bavarian kings. It shows the history of the dynasty of the Wittelsbachers, including interesting background information on Maximilian II and his son Ludwig II.

Many people that have visited the castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau want to know more after their visit. How did they come into existence, what kind of people were king Ludwig and his father and how did they live? These and other questions about many Bavarian rulers are answered in the museum of the Bavarian kings. Modern museum technology, impressive stagings and several original items from the times of king Ludwig as for example his mantle or a royal dinner service tell the history of the Wittelsbachers in an entertaining way up to the presence. The museum is one of the most beautiful in Germany. In the first floor a large panoramic window provides a view of the Alpsee with it's surrounding mountains and fairy tale castles.

Every day public guided tours are on offer. Audio guides can be found in German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. It's recommended that you combine your visit of the museum with a visit of the castles. The museum is accessible for disabled persons and is open every day excluding public holidays. The museum shop offers the opportunity to buy a souvenir for yourself or loved ones at home. The restaurant Café Alpenrose invites you to linger in comfort while enjoying the nice ambiance and local as well as international specialties.

The museum of the Bavarian kings is wonderfully decorated in a modern way. Everybody that wants to know more about king Ludwig II and his castles should really have a look. This museum is a must for everybody interested in history and culture.
